About

About us
We’re a group of people who live or work in Kirklees and we’re reporting on the local elections in our area. We were asked to do this by Kirklees Council, as a way of helping people to find out more about the elections. We’ll be sharing video, photographs and other content during the local elections. We hope to show you:

  • what local people are saying about the elections
  • what it feels like to be a voter, candidate or member of staff during the elections
  • what goes on behind the scenes

We usually visit polling stations and other locations on election day and we interview people whilst the votes are being counted. But local democracy isn’t just about election day, so we’ll also be finding out about other aspects of local decision making and we’ll let you know how you can get involved.

About the elections
If you’re looking for information about where and how to vote, or looking for the election results, you can find everything you need at: www.kirklees.gov.uk/elections

About Community Reporters
Some of us took part in a local Community Reporters course, which was run by People’s Voice Media and funded by Kirklees Council. By becoming Community Reporters, we’ve learnt how to use social media to have a voice in our community and to share stories about what happens where we live.
